Rose was starting to wonder if she'd picked a bad date for her dear partner's special day.
After all, it seemed like every single time it rolled around, one of those times that they could only partly remember happened. It was starting to get annoying, if the Clefairy's opinion mattered at all. How was everyone supposed to celebrate Ryner's Day properly if they weren't going to remember it afterwards?
But that wasn't going to stop her, even if she delayed it until the weird stuff was over with. Better to do it late than not remember it. And she was sure he'd remember this year well. She'd put in so much time and effort into making it the best one yet, after all!
She was really proud of how the gift had come out. She really had to hand it to Saias - the Archen might have been from an entirely different time, but he had a keen eye for pretty stones. And Shae had been instrumental in fishing them up from the bottoms of the nearby ponds and polishing them. Rose would have to find a way to thank them both properly, somehow. She wondered if they liked dango.
As for the more important part, though... well, that had taken a long time, but she thought she had it. The H sound was natural enough, and P had been surprisingly easy to master. N, S, and D had been harder, but with Pino, Jiru, and Elfy's help over the past few months, she thought she had them down.
And even if it wasn't quite perfect (months of practice on one phrase, but there were still a couple small details she couldn't quite get), she was certain her dear partner would see how much she had done to try to make him smile, and he would be happy. And really, that was the important part.

"Aaaahh, I'm really glad I'm not him right now," Ryner sighed as he hung up the pokegear. Not that he'd wish the Lieds on anyone, but Sion was so much better at dealing with people like them, and also less prone to getting headaches on seeing their faces.
(Though, to be fair, that stuff had mostly gotten better. He hadn't had so much as an unwarranted twitch when Marian was around Sion in months.)
But, either way. Much as he'd said he was going to head out as soon as he could, the winds outside were really loud and disconcerting. Not good flying weather even if he wasn't sure Rose would want to challenge the gym since they were there, and they might as well take a day to prepare anyway, and he felt like something bothersome had happened during the last few days, so it was better to sleep that off anyway...
"Fairy!"
Ryner turned to Rose, who was holding something behind her back. "Hey, Rose. What do you say we take today to go over strategy and preparations and then challenge the gym tomorrow?"
Oddly enough, though, she didn't answer, instead running forward and leaping up into his arms, bringing the mystery item in front of her. He was a little surprised, but at this point it was fairly normal, so he caught her pretty easily. "Hey, that doesn't really answer..."
But Rose cleared her throat and focused, and Ryner's eyes widened when he heard what came out of the Clefairy's mouth:
"Happy Ryner's Day, Dear Par'ner!"
It was kind of accented - the ii sounds too short, the t nonexistent, a couple of vowels off in pronunciation just a little - but it was unmistakable. Ryner had heard of trainers teaching their pokemon how to talk, but he'd never done that with Rose. Well, not that he was surprised, considering that this was Rose...
(And of course it was about Ryner's Day. Of course Rose still wouldn't forget about that stupid thing. Why had Fuji even suggested it in the first place, all those years ago, Ryner still didn't know.)
He suppressed his immediate reaction - that she had put too much effort in for his sake, because she clearly didn't think so and would definitely pound him if he said that he did - and instead smiled softly, petting her. "Ahh, that's amazing, Rose. You must have worked really hard on that, huh."
"Clef!" A cheerful reaction, and Rose then handed him the small box that she had been hiding from him.
"Is that for me, then?"
"Fairy." A nod.
With mild curiosity, he took the box and opened it. Inside was a bracelet - polished, flattened stones that had large holes drilled through the middle, through which a string was strung. It wasn't the kind of thing you'd see at a jewelry store... well, Rose was the kind who would make something herself or find someone to help her make it herself rather than buy something anyway. For what it was, though, it had a prettiness to it.
"Ahh, this is really nice, Rose. Did you make it yourself?"
"Clef clefair~" That probably meant she'd had help, as he thought.
Ryner wasn't really the type to wear jewelry most of the time, but this was a special case. He could wear it at least a little while, and that would make Rose happy. Nothing saying he'd have to wear it ever again if he didn't feel like it. So he put it on, and then gave Rose a hug. "Thanks, Rose."
"Fairy~" Rose returned the hug, her expression very happy.
"Tell you what. Once the wind dies down, how about we go get some dango? My treat."
"Clef!" Now that sounded like a wonderful idea.
