Ryner adopted this Magikarp egg from Cecil in an attempt to at least help out with the deluge of eggs he'd been left with out of season.
Hardin has a particularly strong sense of touch and less pain tolerance than most others of his species, causing a dislike of fighting from an early age. So he decided to join the pond Magikarps who are just there for the Cherubios, and even though he's a newer addition, to them it's as though he was always there.
