[The 'gear is at an angle this evening - it was obviously turned on on purpose, but it's not recording him head-on, instead from his side, while he's lying down. That doesn't mean you won't be able to make out things like the tiger stripe-like markings on his arms, or the fact that he's wearing sunglasses at night, or the fact that there's a tiny yellow spider cuddling very happily between his neck and shoulder, but.]

So, I'm kind of curious. Anyone got any interesting legends or anything, back where they come from?

I'm interested in just about anything, honestly.

Let me see... have you heard the tale of Sleeping Beauty? It has a heroic prince, a wicked dragon, and lots of magic!

Ah, no, I don't think I have.

Then I'll be more than happy to share it!

Once Upon A Time, in a kingdom off in the beautiful fields of sweetest flowers, a lovely queen gave birth to a darling little daughter named Aurora. Almost everyone in the land was invited to a party to see her, and she was even arranged to be married to a prince when she grew up. While many people had great gifts for the baby, it was the fairies who had the greatest of them all. Three beloved, kind fairies each gave a blessing to the baby. The first gave her the gift of beauty, the second gave her the gift of sweet songs, and the third...

Well, the third wasn't finished, when suddenly, a dark and evil presence invaded the happy party!

Those are never good. What did it want?

It was another fairy... only this fairy was evil! She was Maleficent, a wicked fairy who only used her powers for darkness. She claimed she was insulted that she wasn't invited to the party, and had her own gift for the baby princess. When the princess turned sixteen, she would prick her finger on a spinning needle, and die! She then laughed and vanished, mercilessly enjoying her cruel gift. The good fairies couldn't remove the gift... but the third one could still give her own. When the princess turned sixteen, she would still prick her finer on a spinning needle, but instead of dying, she would fall into a deep sleep, as would the entire kingdom. Only the kiss of true love would break the spell of sleep.

Glad the good fairy was able to turn that around.

To be extra careful, the good fairies took baby Aurora with them into the forest to raise her, renaming her as Brair Rose, until they felt it was safe for her to return.. The King, meanwhile, ordered all the spinning needles to be destroyed. Years passed, and Maleficent was angry that the princess couldn't be found. The princess grew up not knowing about her royal family, and became beautiful and kind, always playing in the forest with her animal friends. The day before her sixteenth birthday, a wandering prince - the very same she was engaged to as a baby! - found her, and they fell in love. When she returned home to tell the fairies her good news, they revealed she was a princess.

That's not really something you just tell someone out of nowhere...

Since she was sixteen and there were no more spinning needles in the kingdom, they felt it was safe to have her return.

Aurora was very sad, because that meant she could no longer see her beloved prince. The fairies told her she was already engaged to someone else, not realizing the two princes were one and the same. Yet Aurora loved her fairies so much that she went along with them back to the kingdom. She went to her room, and cried over the loss of her love. But as she cried, Maleficent used her magic to sneak into the castle, having found her and followed her back to the kingdom. She managed to save one spinning needle from the King's destruction, and placed it in Aurora's room.

Aurora had never seen one before, and she was so overwhelmed by curiosity...

Let me guess, she pricked her finger?

Wouldn't be such an important plot point if she didn't.

She touched the needle, and the fairies' gift rang true. She fell into a deep sleep, and so did the entire kingdom. The fairies knew that only true love's kiss would break the spell, so they left the castle to find the prince she had fallen for. While they were gone, Maleficent took over the castle, covering it with dark vines and thorns. As far as she was concerned, the kingdom would sleep forever! She would never let the prince kiss the princess!

And all this because she wasn't invited to one party, huh.

There are some people who will use any excuse to be cruel.

The fairies found the prince, who was searching for his lost love. They told him what happened, and he followed them to the castle. Maleficent sent her minions after him, but with the fairies magic, he defeated them, and cut through the vines and thorns. His pure heart strengthened the magic of the fairies! Maleficent became so enraged, she turned herself into a fierce dragon, almost destroying the castle in her wrath. "Now you shall deal with me, O Prince," she cackled, "and all the powers of Hell!"

[She even tries to imitate an evil laugh. it's... very squeaky.]

[He's heard scarier, in terms of evil laughs, but points for effort, anyway.]

A dragon, huh.

The prince and the good fairies fought valiantly. His shield was destroyed, there was fire all around him, but he never gave up. Finally, he cast a fatal blow to the dragon with his sword, thanks to the good fairies magic. It struck Maleficent's heart, and she was defeated. All signs of her evil magic vanished, and the prince went to Aurora's room, finding her asleep. He gave her the kiss of true love, and she awoke with a smile, seeing her love. It turned out that the man she was engaged to and the prince she loved were one and the same! They were married, and lived happily ever after.

Ah, I'm glad they got a happy ending.

And sometimes the best part about an actual legend... is that it was all true.

Ah, really? You've met them?

Unfortunately, I've only met Maleficent.

Ahhh... that sucks.
