[The 'gear is at an angle this evening - it was obviously turned on on purpose, but it's not recording him head-on, instead from his side, while he's lying down. That doesn't mean you won't be able to make out things like the tiger stripe-like markings on his arms, or the fact that he's wearing sunglasses at night, or the fact that there's a tiny yellow spider cuddling very happily between his neck and shoulder, but.]

So, I'm kind of curious. Anyone got any interesting legends or anything, back where they come from?

It certainly causes a multitude of problems, yes.

[ONES THAT HE'S REALLY BUTTHURT OVER]

In fact, it's what sets off the legend to begin with.

He was present at the betrothal of his lord, Fionn mac Cumhaill, to Grainne, the daughter of the High King of Ireland. I'm sure you can imagine how that went.

I have to wonder what he was doing there in the first place. It's not like this particular quality of his was unknown, so it was clearly a massive error of judgement on everyone's part.

It would have been less of a grievous lapse in logic if Grainne had any sort of magic resistance that would keep her from falling prey to the curse, but she didn't, and so they ran off together later that night.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Of course, what made it even worse was that Diarmuid was formerly incredibly loyal to the man.

In any case, once it became apparent that Diarmuid and Grainne had run off together, Fionn sent his knights in pursuit of them. Of course, it wasn't an easy decision for anyone, given that Diarmuid was apparently very popular among Fionn's knights for whatever reason.

Fortunately for Diarmuid, he always happened to run into the knights who were actually trying to kill him, thus preventing him from having to face any actual moral quandaries.

This continued for about a year and a half, until Diarmuid's father got involved and intervened on his behalf in a blatant display of nepotism.

It didn't exactly solve much, in the long run. Fionn allowed Diarmuid to return to his service, but it can't be said that he was truly forgiven.

Some years after that, Fionn and Diarmuid went hunting, which went exceedingly poorly given that Diarmuid was fatally gored by a boar.

Yes. Of course, Fionn had an ability that could have proven useful in that situation-anyone who drank water from his cupped hands would be healed of anything, no matter how grievous.

He intended to, at first. He went to a nearby stream three times for water, but each time he let it run through his fingers before he could make it useful.
