☆56☆ [Anonymous Text/Action for Ecruteak] - Backdated to the night of the third nightmare
What manner of unfulfillable dreams has such a hideous monster seen?
When he'd had his first nightmare, he'd barely thought anything of it. Sure, it had been bad enough to wake him up, which hadn't happened in quite some time, but he'd just gotten up, used the bathroom, gotten a glass of water, checked his 'gear until he'd finished said glass of water, and then gone back to sleep.
You can’t grasp anything with those blood-stained monster’s hands of yours. You can’t reach anywhere.
When he'd had his second, he'd started to get a little concerned, but that was mostly because it sounded like it was an epidemic, which usually meant stuff was going to happen. It had woken him up once more, but like before, he had gotten up, used the bathroom, gotten a glass of water, and then gone back to sleep after finishing it. Sure, Rose probably thought something was up, since she had been up playing with his 'gear for whatever reason, but it was just a nightmare. Nothing he wasn't used to, nothing he couldn't handle.
You can’t touch anyone. Not you, when you hold no value in being alive.
Tonight's, though... Tonight's was horrible on a level he had yet to experience in his nightmares. The vivid detail, the helplessness as the world turned simultaneously white and red and he could do nothing but watch, the hope as his eyes were covered and the crushing despair as, for the first time, it didn't stop, the horrible, echoing laughter that came unwillingly from his own vocal chords...
It shook him so much that, when he awoke shaking, drenched in sweat, gasping for air, and already subconsciously clawing at his eyes, that it took him a few moments to even realize that it wasn't real, it was just a nightmare, he hadn't...
Rose wasn't...
He shakily got up, threw on a jacket, and wrote a note to leave on the bed in case Sion woke up. No reason to worry him about stupid things.
"I'm taking a walk. If I'm not back by morning, I'll probably be out by the pond."
Gail cocked his head at him, standing his silent vigil in the corner - even now, one of his pokemon was watching him, as had been the case this entire month. Ryner just smiled weakly at him, patted him on the head, and quietly left the room.
His intent was just to sit on a bench by the pond near the Tin Tower and watch the water in the starlight for a while until he had calmed down enough to go back to sleep. And in the mean time, he typed up a quick message on his 'gear, just to see what kind of response he'd get, if anyone was up tonight. Good enough time to practice the programming he'd been learning to make it anonymous, right?
Of course, his solitude wasn't to last, as with a "Fairy!" Rose was suddenly at his side, pinching his arm hard. Whether she'd been awake the whole time or Gail had woken her up was a good question - he'd believe either, honestly.
"Ow ow ow ow owwwww! Rose, quit it!"
"Clef clefairy." That was for leaving without an escort, especially at this time of night.
"...Okay, fine, I get it. I shouldn't go out this late at night."
"Fairy clef fair clefair." Not alone, not this time of year. What were you even thinking, dear partner?
"...Sorry if I worried you, Rose."
A smack on the nose.
"OW! What was that for??"
"Fairy clef?" What's wrong? She peered up at him with a worried expression.
"...Ahh, is it because of... It was just a nightmare, Rose. Nothing I won't be over by morning." Not that he was sure about this particular one, but.
Instead of hitting him again, Rose pulled out a piece of paper she'd brought with her and drew on it in pencil the message, It looked bad. Was it the fake?
...Right, she already knew, thanks to the dream that the two of them had shared thanks to Lafra a while back. She knew, and yet she just considered his eyes a fake version of him that was unworthy of even paling in comparison to him, or something like that. She had such a strange way of looking at the world sometimes.
He didn't say anything, and he didn't want to tell her the rest of what had happened, but he hesitantly nodded.
And in response, Rose just hugged him close. "Fairy..."
And after a few moments, Ryner closed his eyes - because he could feel it, if he kept them open any longer he was going to start tearing up - and hugged her in return.

I know what I am. I know I can't change that. But is it wrong to wish that I could? Is it wrong to want something to not go wrong for a change?
