You know, there's this thing that's been bugging me for a while.

[Ryner's sitting at a desk, an open notebook and a couple of open books in front of him. Looks like someone's been doing something other than sleeping.]

In the Pokedex, it lists each kind of Pokemon and gives it a species classification, right? Like how Clefairy is the Fairy Pokemon, or Absol is the Disaster Pokemon, or Joltik is the Attaching Pokemon. And I mean, most of them are fine.

But then you've got Noctowl, the Owl Pokemon. And, well, I know what an Owl is, but they don't exist in this world, right? There aren't any normal animals here, only Pokemon and people. So why would they classify it as an Owl if they shouldn't know what an Owl is?

And okay, sure, owl is in Noctowl's name, but something like Buneary, the Rabbit Pokemon, or Cyndaquil, the Fire Mouse Pokemon. How do you explain those?

[Also, in the background, a Buneary might be seen rummaging through Ryner's bag while a shiny Togetic and a Munna look on, but that's probably not important...]

Maybe, but then the question becomes, what happened to them? You'd think they'd have records of them somewhere, or at least stories.

There must have been. But how long would it have taken before someone saw a text mention owls, thought of it as a mistake and changed it to Noctowls instead?

I guess that's possible.

...There is also the possibility that any preexisting reference to normal animals was deliberately suppressed, though I cannot see why that would be the case.

That makes it sound almost like some kind of grand conspiracy or something. Like something pretty major happened that somebody didn't want anybody to remember.

...That sounds alarmingly like the locals' earliest reactions to those strange, dream-like days, you know. Assuring people that nothing happened, even if there was physical proof...

...You're right. And you know, it's always the professors who are saying that nothing happened and everything's fine...

Considering that professors would either have access to more ancient documents than anyone else or be the source of those documents in the first place, modifying the available information should be possible for them.

And it's not like I haven't been suspecting they're hiding something, not after the Shedinjas...

Did they ever mention what was done with those that were captured? I cannot recall hearing anything on the subject.

Not that I heard. Nor did they ever say where they came from in the first place. Normal ones don't actually do that, so who experimented on them and came up with ones that do?

...The usual answer to that particular question would be Team Rocket, but in this case...

If it means there's another group of assholes out there, that'll end up a huge pain one of these days...

Especially if they have the power to make the more... outlandish claims found in the Pokédex come true.

Yeah... Some of those would be pretty dangerous. Like Magcargo's. How hot even is that?

Not something that I'd want to actually see, in any case.

It would be interesting, surely, but I doubt the consequences would be worth the few seconds of entertainment.

Entertainment, right. Something would probably explode, at the very least...

Such heat would easily melt mountains, too. That would be impressive to behold, at first.

At first, maybe. Can't say I find much entertainment in destruction, though, myself...

...I should not either, but I must admit that watching Mannikins shatter from relentless attacks was quite soothing. Such heat would destroy so many at once...

To each his own, I guess. I'd rather sleep.

...Sleeping is pleasant and necessary to our survival, but not what I'd consider entertaining or productive.
