[It's a little before noon at the Goldenrod City Pokémon Center... and a certain lazy mage is catching some z's.

During his shift, at his desk, on top of the paperwork he's supposed to be filing. :) It's not like he's snoring or being disturbing or anything, but he's been like this for a little while now.

Miss NPC Secretary who works at a desk nearby is... well, you can't say she's not amused by this, because her expression clearly says she finds it at least mildly entertaining. But fact is, he -is- sleeping on the job.

And she happens to have some kind of book. A pretty heavy reference book, by the looks of it. And as she approaches Ryner's chair...

GYAAAAAH!

[The audio feed turned on in the middle of that scream, as he was falling backward in his chair - he was knocked off balance due to waking up to the sudden sharp pain of having a book dropped on his head. (It was in his back pocket.)]

What the hell was that for, Sion?! Trying to kill me aga--...eh?

[He blinks once or twice, only now realizing where he is. There are a few NPCs looking in the general direction, in a 'what is this' manner.]

"Sion"? Dreaming about your girlfriend, are you?

[Indignantly.] We don't have that kind of relationship at all!! Besides, he's not a girl. [But you don't deny the dream's topic...]

Whe~ther I believe that or not, you're not supposed to be sleeping on the job. You know that, right~? [She puts her hands behind her head as she says this, with a smile that indicates she's definitely far too amused by the situation for everyone's good.

Ryner just picks himself up and does his best to be unfazed.] I know, I know. Sorry, I didn't sleep enough last night.

Oh, while you're up, could you grab these files for me? They're all on the top shelf, and I'm a bit too short, you see, so I'd really appreciate it. [She hands him a piece of paper.]

Sure, sure.

[And he walks back to where all of the files are, and mutters a little to himself as he finds what his co-worker needs.]

Working is such a pain... Well, I guess if I didn't, Rose would kill me. She and the others have to be able to eat and stuff, after all...

[And with a yawn, he finally decides to check on his Pokégear, since he did land kind of hard on that part of his rear end, didn't he. Seeing it on, he sighs, but turns it off without a word.

Anyone who comes to bother him while he's actually working on filing papers now (so that another book doesn't get thrown at him) may notice that his right hand is wrapped in bandages, and he's mostly using his left hand for stuff when he can get away with it.]

Sunglasses... Those are the ones with the tinted lenses, right? [He smiles cheerfully.] Those would be helpful, wouldn't they.

Sleep would be easier. And it has the added bonus of making people wonder what you're up to.

True, true. That sounds like fun, actually... All right, I've decided, this afternoon I'll bring Rose with me and pick something out!

I can't think of a better way to spend your paycheck that you've been working all day towards. [/teasingly. He's poking at your paperwork with a certain degree of absent-minded curiosity, which basically spells trouble all-round.] What exactly are you supposed to be doing, anyway? Filing files? Paper-pushing?

Mmm, something like that. Like, making sure everything goes where it's supposed to, or getting the papers people need from where they're stored, or grabbing things off the higher shelves for people who are too short. I don't have to actually write anything, though.

I wonder what all of this paperwork is for, really. Keeping medical charts for each and every pokemon that passes through here doesn't sound very practical.

[A shrug.] Don't know. I guess there are some people who just like having all of those records around, or something.

How's Rose, by the way? Still as chipper as usual?

Yeah, she's doing fine. She should be back at the room right now, making sure Ren doesn't set anything else on fire by accident...

How's your Gastly?

I don't think you've ever introduced me to all of your pokemon, actually. Who's Ren?

And he's doing all right. On the days where I can't find the hair iron, I usually go right to him. It works every time.

Ren's a Cyndaquil. Just hatched the other day, actually. He's really energetic, but a little shy to the touch... I give up on trying to figure out how fire types can set themselves on fire like that and still live.

...He still likes that thing, huh.

You know, that's a good point. Personally, I think fire-proof underwear has something to do with it.

Yup. Can't seem to wean him off of. Any suggestions, or is the situation just really that beyond help?

Could be, I guess. Though, I wouldn't think that kind of material would support the flames themselves...

Uh, well, I don't know much about that kind of thing... You could try hiding it from him or something.

Well, you'd be surprised what people can make things do.

And he's a ghost. Even if he doesn't have x-ray vision, it's hard to hide something from a pokemon that can literally go through just about anything.

Ah, true, ghosts can do that, can't they... Haa, what a pain.

Well, I'll find a way, if it gets out of hand. Right now, though, it's still sort of cute.

It's a baby. I can't blame it. Pokemon are a little bit like children.
