tearsofademon: (you do not comprehend)
Some background prose discussing what led up to this )

[Video, at least a couple hours later]

[Eventually, when Ryner never comes back from a quick routine store run, Rose gets worried, and she, Jehra, and Elfy are of course going to go investigate. They only get more worried when they find his bag and sunglasses abandoned in the middle of the road. (Jehra breaks up a petty argument between a bunch of Duskulls and Shuppets over which group is stronger, but they haven't seen any humans of Ryner's description pass by.)

Jehra is able to pick up his scent, though, and it eventually leads to the house of a minor NPC, which is where Rose turns on the video feed.

"Clefair! Clefairy clef ri Fairy clef clefairy clef!" The video is initially of her, standing in the windowsill, really, really confused. Her dear partner is acting really strangely and she doesn't know what to do about it!

She then turns the camera, to reveal... Is Ryner cooking? He is seriously cooking. And not just microwavable stuff, we're talking actual chef stuff. And tons of it, too. ...Mostly desserts, but still. There are mixing bowls filled with cake batter, cookie sheets lightly covered in shortening, pots and pans of all shapes and sizes, and ingredients of all sorts laid out all over the place. And Ryner is expertly using each and every ingredient without even having to glance at a cookbook. And cheerfully humming while doing so.

What is this.

"Dit?" The sound of Elfy's questioning voice is enough to distract Ryner from his cooking briefly, but, well...]

Oh, aren't you cute! Where did you come from?

[No recognition of his own Pokémon, not to mention how he's using a very uncharacteristic falsetto tone to his voice. And then, when Elfy uses Transform and turns into Ryner right in front of him in order to see how he reacts...]

And so talented, too! Turning into someone who isn't right in front of you like that... Would you like to help me? I'll let you have some of what we make, at the end.

[...aaaaaaaand no recognition of his own self, either. Clearly, there is something very wrong here.

(Spoilers: it's a Yamask.)]

Off the network, TL;DR prose that exists to provide background that is not required reading )

[So a certain lazy mage is just outside the Ecruteak Pokémon Center at this point, and boy does he look as though he’s not thrilled by what’s going on.]

Haa… This is going to be really, really bothersome. But if it means that everyone ends up okay in the end, then I guess…

It’s bugging me, a little, the way he'd said that these are different from how Shedinja ‘naturally’ are – makes me wonder what the story is behind these, you know? But, well, everyone needs to be freed somehow, so I guess that doesn’t really matter right now, does it…

Well, anyway, um… If anyone wants to help us catch Shedinjas around Ecruteak, wouldn’t say no to the help, I guess. Not that I’d blame anyone who’d rather stay inside. I’d rather stay inside, this is a huge pain… Haa, but it'd be worse if everyone was stuck like that.

[His eyes narrow slightly as he decides to end his message with one more comment.] If you are going out there, though, no matter where you are… just, be careful, okay?

A background nightmare that's tl;dr and no one probably cares about it )

Action in his room in the inn right after that also provides tl;dr background that no one probably cares about - you can pop in during this point if you'd like, but please specify if you do. )

[Today's video feed from Route 36 is being brought to you by Aran the Paras, who is sitting on a low branch of a nearby tree.]

So basically, magic is really just rearranging the flow of energy in the world in certain ways, in order to produce different phenomena. Like this...

[And he draws a pattern in the air. Unlike the last time he tried, however, his fingers leave behind visible trails, creating a glowing pattern in the air, kind of like a magic circle.]

What I seek is lightning... IZUCHI!

[And this time, something happens - a large bolt of lightning comes forth from the pattern of light, striking a conveniently placed boulder a short distance away.

"Clefairy!!" Rose applauds while jumping up and down excitedly. That was so amazing, dear partner!!

(Incidentally, there is a Darkrai and a Litwick standing a short distance behind them, who are also both applauding, impressed.)]

Heh... That one's not really all that difficult, but, well, I'm glad you liked it, anyway.

[Then Rose steps forward and -

"Clefairy clef clefair... Clefairy!"

- uses Magical Leaf on that same boulder. She then turns back to Ryner and, with a "Clefairy fairy!", asks if he can do something like that too, since he can shoot lightning and taught her Thunderbolt.]

Mmm? Can I do something like that? Ah, well, I don't know any spells like that, but I can see if I can make something, anyway. Let's see... It'd probably be Estabul-style, the way you do it...

[He draws another pattern in the air, this one like ribbons that circle around him.]

I offer up this contract, um, how about, to call upon a tornado of leaves!

[He's not very good at naming spells. (Or Pokémon, really.) But the basic point is there, and he's surrounded briefly by several glowing ellipsoid-like shapes, kind of like leaves, which he directs to twirl upward before colliding a distance above his head and explode into a sparkling firework.

It's not quite Magical Leaf, but Rose seems impressed, jumping up and down and chattering about how awesome that was.

One small thing of note, though... were his eyes glowing red when he casted that second spell?]
